From Claudia, our field trip coordinator:
On Tuesday, December 2, we’ll have a an added field trip to Al’s Garden Center in Sherwood. Carpoolers, meet at Leona’s parking lot by 10 am. Our free time to wander and possible talk on caring for poinsettias begins at 11-ish am.
This flagship garden center is paved, with a cafe featuring beverages and snacks, and an extensive holiday gift center. Please remember to wear your garden club name badges.
Get your shopping done early!
Contact Claudia T with any questions.
Happy Rainy Morning Members!!
First, I wanted to remind you that we have our coffee chat this coming Tuesday at ElkaBee’s on Sunnyside, from 9 am -11 ish. Come when you can, stay as long as you would like. It will be a great time to enjoy a warm latte with each other, especially since it will probably be raining outside!
Second, and equally important….Claudia has checked with Al’s Garden & Home in Sherwood and they are very happy to have us come visit them on Dec 2nd. They will give us a short talk on growing poinsettias, and then we can do a little Christmas shopping in their beautiful garden center and enjoy lunch together in their cafe. Probably best that we pack a sack lunch. They do have a coffee/snack bar available though. The cafe, interior plant area, and the gift store are all cement, so it’s great for wheelchairs, walkers, and canes. The outer yard is gravel.
We will meet up at Leona’s parking lot at 9:30, and arrive at Al’s around 11 or before. Right now, we need a head count of how many members would be interested in attending this event, so…..please email me to let me know, so I can get the number back to Claudia.
Enjoy your day! I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

For those of us who enjoyed the ikebana presentation in August and want to see more, there’s a weekend for you!

Dear Friends,
Happy Fall! I apologize for sending this out so late, but there were a few details that were still getting ironed out. We’re set now, so here’s our
“October at a Glance”….1) October 14th – Regular meeting at the church. Our speakers will be Priscilla Robinson and Justine Dune. Both Master Gardeners, they will be talking with us about “Gardening Tool Essentials.” They will provide insight into various types of tools and their care. Some may surprise you! Our hosts that morning will be Shelley Fenton, Jan Ferguson-Breese, Wendy Young, and possibly one more recruit.
ALSO —>>>> come a little early if you can….9:15? Once you have gotten settled with your snack and coffee, be sure to pick up a bingo page! Wander around and find different members who meet the criteria for each square. There’s even a prize for the first person who gets bingo – (One straight, 5 square line with 5 different names!) Be sure to talk to members you haven’t met yet, as well as the members that are sitting rather than wandering… they will need their squares signed off too and will more than likely be able to fill a square for you!
2)October 28th – Join us for coffee (and possibly a breakfast treat?) at ElkaBee’s on Sunnyside at 9 a.m. We meet in the side room and usually chat for a good 1 1/2 to 2 hours. It’s a marvelous way to start a beautiful fall day!
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!Wendy
Everyone is celebrating gardens!
Check out our visit to Barb D’s lovely garden on the first full day of fall!
And we’ve added another gardening resource – the Garden Ecology Lab!
There’s always something new to explore at the Happy Valley Garden Club website. If you’re not a member, it’s time to join!
If you are interested in floral design, check out the meetings and join the fun! The Elsie Skinner Progressive Designers Guild meets monthly. Find the schedule under our Resources tab.
Good afternoon members!
Our Fall District Luncheon is coming up quickly (October 9) and ALL of our members are invited! Whether you have never attended or have attended frequently, we would love to have you there! If you haven’t already paid, please send your $20 check, made out to Happy Valley Garden Club, to Sandy Platz. She needs to receive your payment by October 1st. It would also be helpful if you could text or call Sandy to let her know your check is on its way and that you are planning to attend. Bring your wallet… there will be some fun items to purchase, as well as raffle tickets to buy!
I also want to remind you that we will not be going to Bauman’s this month, as previously planned. Instead, Barb Decious has generously invited us to her garden! She will have coffee and tea available. Feel free to bring treats/tea sandwiches to share, if you want. I hope you’ll join us!
See you soon!
Wendy Young
Hi everyone!
I sincerely apologize for not including this important announcement in today’s email! I knew I was forgetting something, but couldn’t recall what it was until Pat Allen sent me a note. This is going to be a special treat and I hope many of us will attend! We can talk about car pooling at our September meeting. Here’s the note from Pat:
“Mark your calendars now for an exciting design program to be held Saturday, September 20, at 2 p.m.at Mary’s Woods in Cascadia Hall (in the Dunn Building, 17520 Mesnard Street, Lake Oswego). Debbie Spiller, an accredited National Garden Club Flower Show Master Judge and former NGC Arranger of the Year, will present and demonstrate traditional and creative designs. This free program is sponsored by the Elsie Skinner Progressive Designers Guild. Debbie will have containers available for sale too. Plenty of free parking!”
Here’s a couple examples of her artistry!
Gorgeous! Intriguing! Fun! Get your pen back out and get it on your calendars!
Wendy
