Welcome to HVGC!

Conservation Pledge: “I pledge to protect the natural resources of the planet Earth and promise to promote education so we may become caretakers of our air, water, forest, land, and wildlife.”

The Happy Valley Garden Club (HVGC) was established in 1968 and has been thriving ever since!  Consider the history of our city – we were a sleepy rural nook on the perimeter of Portland and the main road running through things was a two-lane gravel super-highway – now known as Sunnyside.  Our club has been part of that growth in membership and interests over the years.

Our club members are interesting individuals who are curious about all things plant-related.  Whether it’s gardening, floral arrangements, indoor greenery, native plants supporting wildlife and pollinators, and more, our wide-ranging talents and skills are things we love to share with like-minded folks.  Could that be you?

Is the Happy Valley Garden Club a good fit for me?

Any and all garden and plant-related topics are fair game in our crowd.  We share ideas, advice and successes (or oops’s) and applaud anyone willing to give growing something a try.  We like to support local nurseries, gardening projects that give back to the community, and children’s outreach to promote their appreciation of nature.  We put our volunteer time and our money into these causes.

When does HVGC meet and where?

We meet on the second Tuesday of the month in the mornings, beginning with social time so we can all catch up on what’s growing.  We have speakers on gardening subjects, craft activities, and field trips to local garden spots – nurseries, gardens in season, and the like.  On the fourth Tuesday of each month, we get together for a coffee chat at local coffee shops and in season, at parks.

Our current second Tuesday meeting location is the Happy Valley Baptist Church, 14095 SE King Rd, HV, beginning at 9:30 am.  Meetings generally last no later than noon.  We rove the area for our fourth Tuesday coffee chats, so please check with a member to see what’s what this month.

What causes does the club support?

Our club members help to support the Clackamas Service Center and the Hull Foundation and Learning Center in Sandy, Oregon.  Our Children’s Outreach Program also helps to promote children’s appreciation of nature.  We support various school garden programs on a rotating basis.  For veterans’ special holidays, we decorate the Blue Star memorials at Willamette National Cemetery and Camp Withycombe.
