Dear Marvelous Members,
I hope all of you have been enjoying the summer…because we are only a few days away from September! Get your calendar and your pen ready…. Here’s your September at a Glance:
1) Sept 9th – Regular meeting at the church. Our speaker, Nikkie West, is from Sparrowhawk Natives and she has a very fitting topic to share with us – “Resilient Gardening in a Time of Climate Change.” Our hosts will be Pat Allen, Karen & Mike Burmester, Jennifer Buss, and Leona McDonald.
2) Sept 23rd – Barb Decious has invited us to her garden! She will have coffee and tea, and a little nibbly. I asked her if we could bring some treats too, and she said if any of us wanted to do so, that would be lovely! Barb will have plates/napkins. Let’s plan to meet there at 11 am. Barb’s address is 6223 SE Dunbar Dr. Portland. It’s always so special when someone opens their garden up to share with friends – I hope everyone gets a chance to join us!
3) Sept 13-14th – Our last guest speaker, Diane Sayrizi, asked me to share this link for those of us who might be interested in the upcoming Ohara Ikebana exhibit at the Japanese Garden, being held Sept 13-14th. It is guaranteed to be a beautiful show! I know they have a limited number of tickets being sold for each time slot, so if you are interested, check it out! https://japanesegarden.org/events/ohara-school-of-ikebana-show-solo-exhibition-by-master-professor-hirokazu-yokohigashi/
4) Oct 9th – Our Fall District Luncheon will be on October 9th at the Elks Lodge in Milwaukie. Be sure to mark your calendars for this wonderful event! It is always a great way to reconnect with members of the other clubs in our district! We will have further details at our Sept 9th meeting regarding the menu, the cost, and the discussion topics. They have some great things planned, including a silent auction! Be still, my heart!
And, as long as we are on the subject of the silent auction ….
Each Garden Club has been asked to donate one (or two or three) items/services, each with a worth of $40 or more, for the silent auction. Three of the clubs in our district have already decided on their donation….so far: (1) a one-hour massage therapy session by a LMT, (2) a handmade lap quilt (3) a haircut and hair products worth $100! What great ideas can we come up with?
Do you have an item/service that you could donate, or do you know someone who might like to help us by donating something? Or maybe a few of us would like to go in together to create a themed basket? It could be a dog basket, a spa basket (think candles, scented soaps) a gardening basket, an autumn night basket (think warm socks, cider, a snuggly blanket, good books)… There’s all kinds of possibilities just waiting for our special touch!
Let Julie, Jennifer, or myself know what ideas you might have!
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!
Wendy
